Hope isn’t just a feel-good emotion; it’s a strategy. And today, I’m going to show you how to harness it to build a business and life you love.

Welcome to the Lifestyle Business Quest Podcast! I’m your host Travis Greenlee and I’m honored you’re spending time with me today. If you’re new here, this podcast is all about helping heart-centered coaches and entrepreneurs build thriving lifestyle businesses that give them both financial freedom and the flexibility to live life on their own terms. Today’s topic is one that’s close to my heart: the role of hope in growing a successful lifestyle business.

This episode is about much more than just staying positive. We’re going to dig deep into why hope is the foundation of everything we do as entrepreneurs. I’ll be sharing a deeply personal story about how hope got me through one of the toughest seasons of my career—when I nearly lost everything I had built. I’ll also share client stories that show the transformative power of hope when paired with the right systems and strategies. And as always, I’m going to leave you with three actionable tips that you can start using today to reignite hope in your own business and life.

So, why is this episode important? Because without hope, it’s easy to fall into a cycle of discouragement and burnout. You might have all the right tools, the best strategies, and a clear plan, but if you don’t have hope, it’s hard to keep moving forward. Hope is what gives you the stamina to push through the tough times and the vision to see beyond the obstacles. My goal today is to help you rediscover that spark of hope, give you tools to nurture it, and show you why hope is the driving force behind everything we teach here at Lifestyle Business Quest.

Let’s start by talking about what hope really means in the context of entrepreneurship. We often think of hope as something soft and vague, something that maybe just keeps us from feeling too down when things aren’t going well. But hope is so much more than that. It’s a powerful, strategic asset that can make or break your business. Without hope, even the best-laid plans can unravel because hope is what fuels persistence, and persistence is what leads to success.

Hope is the belief that, no matter how challenging things are today, you have the power to create a better tomorrow. It’s the inner conviction that, with the right actions, your situation can and will improve. When you’re building a lifestyle business—especially one where freedom, balance, and personal fulfillment are key—hope becomes an essential driver of everything you do.

I know this firsthand because hope is what carried me through one of the darkest chapters in my life and business. Let me take you back to 2008, during the Great Recession. Before that, I was living the dream. My business was thriving—I had a seven-figure income, a waitlist of clients who I loved serving, and a lifestyle that was everything I’d ever dreamed of. I was skiing 100 days a year, traveling to Maui with my wife, Teresa, and enjoying the freedom that came with running a successful business. I felt unstoppable.

But when the recession hit, my business came crashing down—almost overnight. The clients I had counted on were no longer able to afford my services, and my full calendar suddenly became empty. I went from financial security to staring down the very real possibility of losing everything I had built over the years. I remember nights lying awake in bed, wondering if I’d have to go back to working for someone else—giving up the freedom and lifestyle I had worked so hard to create. The fear was real, and so was the self-doubt.

There were moments when I questioned whether I should just cut my losses and move on. But deep down, I held onto one thing: hope. I refused to believe that this was how my story would end. Even when the circumstances were at their worst, I clung to the belief that there was a way forward—that I could rebuild, learn from this experience, and come out stronger on the other side.

That hope gave me the courage to dig deep, to reinvent myself and my business. I started studying the top leaders who were thriving despite the recession, and I began to see patterns. These leaders weren’t just surviving—they were thriving because they had built systems that were resilient, automated, and designed for scalability. I took everything I learned and applied it to my own business, developing the perpetual clients system, automated marketing processes, and the high-leverage business models that I now teach to other lifestyle coaches.

It wasn’t an overnight fix, but that hope—paired with the right strategies—allowed me to rebuild my business and create a life that was even better than what I had before. Today, those systems have helped hundreds of coaches build thriving lifestyle businesses that give them both financial freedom and the flexibility to live life on their own terms. But none of that would have happened if I had given up on hope.

It’s not just my story that illustrates the power of hope—I’ve seen it time and time again with my clients. Let me share a few stories of how hope transformed their businesses and lives.

One of the most powerful examples is Coach Margie. When Margie first came to me, she was working 18-hour days, trying to do everything herself. She was passionate about her work, but she was stuck in a cycle of burnout and overwhelm. Margie had almost lost hope that she could build a business that allowed her to serve her clients at a high level without sacrificing her personal life. She felt like she was trapped in a never-ending grind—giving everything she had but not seeing the results she wanted.

But deep down, there was still a flicker of hope that there had to be a better way. Margie decided to lean into that hope and joined our program. Over the next few months, everything changed for her. We simplified her business model, focused on what truly mattered, and helped her implement a scalable system that allowed her to work smarter, not harder. Today, Margie’s business is thriving, and she’s living the freedom-based lifestyle she always dreamed of. She no longer works 18-hour days—instead, she spends her time doing what she loves, both in her business and in her personal life. Hope, paired with the right systems, was the key to her transformation.

Another client who experienced a profound shift is Coach David. When David joined Lifestyle Business Quest, he was at his breaking point. He had invested in every course, program, and coach you could think of, but nothing seemed to work. His business was barely bringing in revenue, and he was ready to walk away from coaching altogether. But there was still that small seed of hope inside him—the belief that if he could just find the right path, he could turn things around.

David decided to bet on that hope and fully committed to our program. We worked together to get crystal clear on his messaging, target his ideal clients, and implement a high-touch, high-tech system that allowed him to scale his business without losing the personal connection that made his coaching so effective. Today, David is enrolling clients consistently and generating the kind of income he had only dreamed of before. But more importantly, he rediscovered his passion for coaching and found a renewed sense of purpose. For David, hope wasn’t just a nice feeling—it was the driving force that led him to the breakthrough he had been searching for.

These stories aren’t just about strategies and tactics. They’re about the transformative power of hope. Hope is what keeps you in the game long enough to find the solutions that work. It’s what allows you to push through the tough times, pivot when necessary, and keep moving toward your vision, even when the odds seem stacked against you.

So, how do you create more hope when it feels like it’s slipping away? Here are three actionable strategies that you can start using today to cultivate hope and keep it alive in your business and life.

First of all, one of the biggest traps entrepreneurs fall into is focusing too much on the end goal and not enough on the progress they’re making along the way. When you’re chasing big goals, it’s easy to get discouraged if you’re not seeing immediate results. But here’s the thing: Progress is what builds momentum, and momentum is what fuels hope.

Start by celebrating the small wins. Did you book a new discovery call? Did you get one step closer to launching that new offer? Did you receive positive feedback from a client? Every small victory is proof that you’re moving in the right direction, and that’s what builds hope. When you focus on the progress you’re making, rather than fixating on how far you still have to go, you start to see that success is not only possible but inevitable. Hope thrives on progress, and when you acknowledge your wins, no matter how small, you create the momentum that keeps you moving forward.

Strategy number two is to Surround Yourself with people who Believe in You. This could be a coach, a facebook group, a mastermind... anyone who is supportive, someone you trust and respect that can hold you accountable to you remaining in action toward reaching your goals.

Hope can fade quickly if you’re trying to do everything on your own. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen entrepreneurs burn out simply because they were trying to figure it all out by themselves. The truth is, hope is contagious, and it flourishes in community. When you’re surrounded by people who believe in your vision, who lift you up when you’re down, and who remind you of what’s possible, it’s much easier to stay hopeful—even when the going gets tough.

In the Lifestyle Business Quest community, we’ve built a culture where hope is nurtured daily. It’s a place where you can connect with other entrepreneurs who are on the same journey, share your wins and struggles, and get the support you need to keep moving forward. When you’re part of a tribe that believes in you, it’s like having a constant source of hope to draw from. You’re not just relying on your own strength—you have the collective energy and encouragement of a community that wants to see you succeed.

Strategy number three is to connect powerfully with your purpose, the reason you do what you do in supporting your clients. Hope is deeply rooted in purpose. When you’re clear on why you’re doing what you do—when your vision is strong and compelling—hope becomes unshakeable. Your "why" is the anchor that keeps you grounded when things get tough. It’s the reason you started this journey in the first place, and it’s the vision that pulls you forward, even when the path isn’t clear.

Take time to reconnect with your "why." Why did you decide to become a coach? What kind of impact do you want to make in the world? Who are you doing this for? When your vision is bigger than just making money—when it’s about serving others, creating freedom, and living a life of purpose—hope becomes the fuel that drives everything you do.

I recommend writing down your "why" and revisiting it often. Visualize your goals and imagine what your life will look like when you achieve them. Let that vision be the source of your hope. When you’re clear on your purpose, hope becomes a natural byproduct, and it will keep you moving forward, even in the face of challenges.

Hope isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a strategic asset in your business. It’s the invisible force that keeps you resilient, focused, and moving forward, even when the odds seem stacked against you. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your business to the next level, never underestimate the power of hope. It’s what allows you to stay in the game, pivot when necessary, and ultimately achieve the freedom and fulfillment you’re working so hard for.
