But more importantly, weā€™re going to talk about how making that story relevant to your ideal clients can create lasting bonds, leading to more powerful conversions and sustainable business growth.

By the end of this episode, youā€™ll understand not just the significance of sharing your journey, but how to craft it in a way that answers the question on every prospectā€™s mind: "Whatā€™s in it for me?" Plus, Iā€™ll be sharing three actionable strategies you can start using right away to make sure your story connects and converts.

Every successful brand and leader has a story that goes beyond the ā€œwhatā€ and delves into the ā€œwhy.ā€ But hereā€™s where most people miss the mark ā€“ your story has to directly relate to the struggles, desires, and aspirations of your audience. Itā€™s not enough to just share what youā€™ve been through; you have to show your prospects whatā€™s in it for them.

Let me take you back to 2008. I had built what many would call a dream lifestyle business. My calendar was packed with clients, I was earning a solid seven figures, and I was living the life I always dreamed of ā€“ skiing 100+ days a year in the beautiful mountains of Steamboat Springs, traveling to Maui with my wife, and enjoying the peace of mind that financial stability brings. On the surface, everything was perfect. But life has a way of shaking things up when you least expect it.

When the Great Recession hit, everything changed almost overnight. I went from having a thriving business with a waiting list of clients to staring at a blank calendar and wondering how I was going to keep everything afloat. My income plummeted, my confidence was shattered, and I found myself facing sleepless nights filled with worry and fear. I vividly remember the heart-wrenching conversations with my wife as we tried to figure out how we were going to hold onto everything we had worked so hard for.

Hereā€™s the thing: I had been doing everything by the book ā€“ working one-on-one with clients, putting in long hours, and relying heavily on outdated models. But what I didnā€™t realize back then was that I was building a house on a shaky foundation. My business wasnā€™t designed to withstand the challenges that were suddenly thrown at me. I was working too hard, depending on manual processes, and didnā€™t have the systems and leverage I needed to scale sustainably.

But hereā€™s where the story takes a turn. I made a decision: I wasnā€™t going to go back to the grind of a traditional job. I had tasted the freedom that a lifestyle business can offer, and I knew I couldnā€™t give that up. So, I went on a quest to completely transform the way I did business. I began studying the top leaders who were thriving even in tough times ā€“ those who had automated systems, scalable offers, and freedom-based models that allowed them to earn more while working less. I immersed myself in learning, testing, and building new systems.

Over time, I rebuilt my business from the ground up. I moved away from trading time for money and embraced a high-leverage model that allowed me to serve more clients with less effort. I created systems that automated lead generation, client onboarding, and even parts of the coaching process. But more importantly, I realized the power of my own story. I learned that sharing the raw, unfiltered truth of my journey ā€“ the highs, the lows, and the pivotal lessons ā€“ was the key to connecting deeply with my audience.

When I started sharing my story with authenticity, vulnerability, and relevance, everything shifted. Clients started reaching out, not just because they needed coaching, but because they resonated with my journey. They saw themselves in my struggles and believed that if I could overcome those challenges, so could they. Thatā€™s when I realized that the real power wasnā€™t in the tactics or the strategies alone ā€“ it was in the *story* that made those strategies meaningful and relatable.

The core lesson from my heroā€™s journey is this: Itā€™s not about being perfect or having all the answers. Itā€™s about being real, showing your scars, and offering a roadmap that others can follow. When you do that, your story becomes the bridge that leads prospects from doubt to trust, from curiosity to commitment.

Today, I run a thriving coaching business that allows me to live the life I truly love ā€“ a business thatā€™s not only financially rewarding but also deeply fulfilling. I get to wake up every day, hit the slopes, spend time with my wife and dogs, and still make a massive impact by helping other coaches achieve the same kind of freedom. And it all started by embracing the rawness of my story and using it to create a genuine connection with those Iā€™m here to serve.

The origin story isnā€™t just about where you came from ā€“ itā€™s about revealing the raw, unfiltered truth behind your journey in a way that speaks directly to your audienceā€™s pain points. When I first started building my business, I was juggling everything and struggling to scale. Sharing this story is powerful because itā€™s the exact challenge many of my clients face. By being real, raw, and most importantly, relevant, I attract clients who need the guidance I offer.

Vulnerability doesnā€™t just make you relatable ā€“ itā€™s a mirror for your audience. When you share your struggles in a way that directly relates to theirs, it allows them to see that you truly understand where theyā€™re coming from. They see themselves in your story, which makes them trust that you can help them get to the other side.

After establishing the connection, the next step is creating a conversion story thatā€™s both inspiring and relevant. Itā€™s not just about showing your results ā€“ itā€™s about illustrating how those results are possible for them too. When I talk about the systems I implemented that allowed me to scale from a struggling business to a thriving coaching empire, Iā€™m not just sharing what worked for me. Iā€™m showing clients the exact path they can take, making it clear how they can achieve similar results.

This is where relevancy truly shines. Your prospects arenā€™t just interested in your success; theyā€™re interested in how that success can translate to theirs. When crafting your conversion story, always tie it back to whatā€™s in it for them.

Once you have your personal story, you need to tailor your message to the right market, ensuring that every detail resonates with what your prospects are dealing with right now. Identifying the demographics and psychographics of your ideal clients is key. What are their fears? What do they desire most? What solutions are they desperately searching for? As I refined the *Lifestyle Business Quest*, I honed in on connecting with coaches who are overwhelmed by inconsistent client flow and feel disconnected from their purpose.

When your story directly addresses these exact challenges, you become the obvious solution in their minds. Your messaging should consistently echo their pain points, needs, and aspirations, making it clear that youā€™re the one who can guide them from where they are to where they want to be.

Even with the perfect story and messaging, itā€™s crucial to know where your clients are hanging out. Your message wonā€™t land if itā€™s not in front of the right people. Whether itā€™s specific Facebook groups, LinkedIn communities, or niche forums, you need to be strategic怐9ā€ source怑. And once youā€™re there, every piece of content you share should answer the question, ā€œWhatā€™s in it for them?ā€

Iā€™ve seen countless coaches burn out trying to reach everyone, everywhere. But by focusing on specific interest groups, where the pain points are clear, your story becomes a magnet for those who are already primed for the solution you offer. This is where relevancy in your story and message gains the most traction.

Letā€™s talk about some real examples of how this approach transforms businesses.

Sam had been coaching for five years but was stuck in a cycle of inconsistency. He was overwhelmed by trying to figure out the latest marketing trends. Once we focused on refining his personal story to speak directly to the challenges of his ideal clients ā€“ those who felt lost and were struggling to gain momentum ā€“ everything changed. We aligned his messaging to the exact needs of his audience, and soon he was consistently enrolling 4-5 clients per month.

Jim was a seasoned consultant working long hours, trapped in the ā€œtrading time for moneyā€ model. We refined his conversion story and shifted him from one-on-one consulting to a scalable hybrid model. By building systems that aligned with his expertise, Jim doubled his income in six months while working fewer hours.

Sarah was overwhelmed by trying to be everything to everyone, which left her marketing efforts scattered and ineffective. We simplified her message, targeted her story to align with her audienceā€™s specific pain points, and created a scalable offer that allowed her to serve more clients without burning out. Within three months, Sarah tripled her income and reclaimed her time.

These stories show that when you focus on building trust through a powerful, relevant narrative, the tactics naturally fall into place. Itā€™s not about chasing the latest trends ā€“ itā€™s about connecting deeply with your ideal clients through a story that resonates.

Before we wrap up, I want to leave you with three actionable strategies you can start implementing right now to craft a powerful, authentic story that will connect deeply with your ideal clients and lead to more enrollments. The goal is to ensure your story meets the "3 Cā€™s" ā€“ that itā€™s *Clear*, *Concise*, and *Compelling*.

The first step in crafting a relevant story is to get crystal clear on what your ideal clients are struggling with and what they truly want. Itā€™s not enough to know this on a surface level ā€“ you need to dig deep into their emotions, fears, and aspirations. Ask yourself: What keeps them up at night? What are they secretly afraid of? What do they dream about achieving?

To do this, engage with your audience. Conduct surveys, have direct conversations, or pay attention to the language they use in comments, forums, or social media groups. Once you understand their core pain points and desires, you can align your story with their journey, making it highly relevant and engaging. For example, if your audience struggles with burnout and balancing life and work, share your personal story of overcoming the same challenge and the specific steps you took to regain control and freedom in your life.

Your story should highlight your journey, but remember ā€“ itā€™s ultimately about them. Share the raw, unfiltered moments that shaped who you are today, but always tie it back to how your experience can help them achieve their goals. Vulnerability is powerful because it humanizes you, making you more relatable and trustworthy.

For instance, when I talk about the challenges I faced during the 2008 recession and how I almost lost my business, I donā€™t just share it for sympathy. I share it to show my clients that I understand their fears of losing everything, and that thereā€™s a path to rebuilding stronger than ever. The focus is on how those experiences shaped the exact process I now teach that helps my clients achieve freedom and financial success.

Your vulnerability allows your prospects to see that youā€™ve walked the same path theyā€™re on and that you have the roadmap to help them get to the other side.

A conversion story is a narrative that takes your prospect from where they are now ā€“ stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure ā€“ to where they want to be, with you as their guide. This story should be simple, clear, and focused on the transformation they can achieve by working with you.

Break it down into three parts:

The Before: Describe the problem or challenge you or your clients faced before finding the solution.

The Turning Point: Share the moment of clarity, decision, or strategy that changed everything.

The After: Illustrate the results ā€“ whether itā€™s more freedom, financial success, or peace of mind ā€“ and how your process was key in achieving it.

For example, Sarahā€™s story is a great model of this. She was overwhelmed, trying to do too much, and her message was scattered. The turning point came when we simplified her messaging and aligned it with the exact needs of her audience. The result? She tripled her income in three months and reclaimed her time. Your conversion story should clearly demonstrate that by following your process, your prospects can experience a similar transformation.

Your personal story is your most valuable asset in building trust, connecting with your ideal clients, and ultimately enrolling them. But hereā€™s the takeaway: Your story only matters if itā€™s relevant. Your prospects are constantly asking, ā€œWhatā€™s in it for me?ā€ The more you can craft a story that answers that question, the more powerful your connections will be.

To sum it up:

Your Heroā€™s Journey is the key to establishing deep trust when itā€™s relevant to your clientsā€™ struggles.

Your Origin Story builds emotional connection by showcasing relatable vulnerability.

Your Conversion Story inspires action when it clearly illustrates how your success can be their success.

Your Message to Market ensures youā€™re speaking to the right people with the right message.

Targeting the Right Interest Groups puts your message in front of those who are already asking for the solutions you provide.
