Today, we’re diving deep into the concept of momentum—how to create it, sustain it, and let it power your business to new heights. Momentum isn't just about achieving success; it’s about sustaining that success over time. By the end of this episode, you'll have actionable strategies to build and maintain momentum that propels you toward a thriving $250,000+ lifestyle coaching business.

Welcome to the Lifestyle Business Quest Podcast! I'm Travis Greenlee, master business growth mentor and I’m thrilled to have you here today as we explore one of the most powerful forces in business growth—momentum. Whether you're just starting your coaching journey or you’ve been at it for a while, the strategies we’re covering today will help you create and sustain the momentum needed to turn your business into a thriving enterprise.

In this episode, we’re going to break down the psychology behind momentum, share actionable steps to build it in your daily routine, and I’ll also share some real-life success stories from my clients who have transformed their businesses by mastering momentum. We’ll dive into the deep mental and emotional aspects of momentum—how your mindset shapes your reality, how hope drives your actions, and why a consistent daily routine is crucial for getting into a flow state where true progress happens.

Let’s start by truly understanding what momentum is in the context of your coaching business. Momentum isn’t just a fleeting burst of energy; it’s the sustained force that keeps you moving forward, even when the initial excitement fades. In physics, momentum is the product of mass and velocity—essentially, it’s the force that keeps an object in motion. In your business, momentum works the same way. It’s the cumulative effect of all the positive actions you take. When you’re in momentum, each action you take builds on the last, creating a powerful, unstoppable force that propels your business forward.

Think of momentum as the difference between pushing a car from a dead stop versus keeping it rolling once it’s already in motion. That initial push is the hardest part—it takes the most effort, the most energy, and the most focus. But once the car is moving, it takes far less energy to keep it going. The same is true for your business. Building momentum requires focused, consistent effort at the start, but once it’s built, it can carry you much further with less effort.

Momentum is not just about speed; it’s about sustainability. When you have momentum, you’re not just chasing one-off wins; you’re building a system that continually feeds your success. For example, I’ve worked with coaches who struggled for years to get consistent clients. They were trying everything—networking, social media, cold outreach—but nothing seemed to stick. It wasn’t until they implemented our Perpetual Clients System, which is designed to create and sustain momentum, that they went from sporadic enrollments to a steady stream of new clients every single month. That’s the power of momentum.

Now, let’s talk about the psychology of momentum. This is where many entrepreneurs get stuck—they focus solely on the tactics and strategies without addressing the mental and emotional aspects that drive those actions. Momentum isn’t just a physical force; it’s also a mental one. When you start seeing wins, no matter how small, it boosts your confidence. And with increased confidence comes greater willingness to take risks, make bold decisions, and push through challenges. This creates a positive feedback loop where success breeds more success.

But here’s the catch: when momentum stalls, self-doubt can creep in. This is the moment when many entrepreneurs give up, believing that their efforts are futile. But the truth is, every business faces periods where momentum slows down. The key is not to see these slow periods as failures but as opportunities to reassess, re-energize, and recommit to your goals.

Understanding the psychology behind momentum also means recognizing the importance of consistency. It’s not enough to have bursts of activity followed by long periods of inaction. Consistency is what fuels momentum over the long term. It’s about showing up every day, even when you don’t feel like it, and taking those small but significant actions that move you closer to your goals.

For example, one of my clients, Chris, was in a place where he had tried so many different things that he was almost paralyzed by the fear of another failure. We worked on shifting his mindset from fear-based to growth-based. Instead of worrying about what might go wrong, Chris started focusing on the opportunities that lay ahead. This shift in mindset allowed him to take consistent action, and over time, he built a steady momentum that transformed his business.

So, how do you create and sustain momentum? Let’s break it down into actionable steps:

1) Start with a Clear, Compelling Story:** Your personal story is your foundation. It’s what sets you apart from the sea of other coaches out there. When I work with clients, the first thing we do is craft a story that resonates on a deep, emotional level with their ideal clients. This story isn’t just about your credentials; it’s about your journey, your struggles, and your triumphs. It’s what makes you relatable and trustworthy.

Your story is not just a marketing tool—it’s a source of motivation for you as well. Every time you tell your story, you remind yourself of why you started this journey in the first place. It helps you reconnect with your passion and purpose, which is crucial for maintaining momentum. For example, my story of nearly losing my business during the 2008 recession isn’t just something I share with clients to inspire them—it’s a reminder to myself of the resilience I built during that time and how that resilience continues to drive my success today.

2) Message-to-Market Connection:** Knowing your audience is crucial. You need to understand not just their demographics but also their psychographics—their fears, desires, and the ultimate results they want from working with you. When you align your message with what your market truly needs, you create a magnetic pull that attracts clients effortlessly.

This connection is what keeps your momentum going. When your message resonates deeply with your audience, they’re more likely to engage with your content, share it with others, and become loyal clients. It’s like fueling a fire—every interaction with your audience adds more fuel, keeping the flames of momentum burning brightly.

3) Leverage Systems for Consistency:** One of the biggest killers of momentum is inconsistency. That’s why we focus so heavily on systems here at the Lifestyle Business Quest. From lead generation to client onboarding, having automated systems in place ensures that you’re not starting from scratch every day. This consistency is what turns a trickle of clients into a flood.

Systems don’t just create consistency—they create scalability. When you have systems in place, you’re able to handle more clients, more revenue, and more growth without feeling overwhelmed. This is crucial for sustaining momentum over the long term. It allows you to continue growing your business without burning out.

4) Keep It Super Simple (KISS):** Complexity is the enemy of momentum. The more moving parts you have, the more chances there are for something to go wrong. Keep your processes streamlined and straightforward. This simplicity is what allows you to move quickly and adapt as needed without losing steam.

Simplicity doesn’t mean cutting corners—it means focusing on what truly matters. It means stripping away the unnecessary and honing in on the core activities that drive results. This is something I emphasize with all my clients because I’ve seen firsthand how overcomplicating things can stall momentum. When you keep things simple, you reduce stress, increase clarity, and create a clear path forward.

Now, let’s dive even deeper into the elements that are foundational to building and maintaining momentum: mindset, hope, and daily routines.

Your mindset is the foundation upon which everything in your business is built. It’s not just about being cheerful; it’s about cultivating resilience, confidence, and the belief that you can achieve your goals. A positive mindset helps you handle setbacks, see challenges as opportunities, and maintain forward momentum even when things get tough.

Think of your mindset as the engine of your momentum. If you’re constantly feeding it with negativity, doubt, and fear, that engine will sputter and stall. But if you fuel it with positivity, self-belief, and a growth mindset, it will run smoothly, driving you forward even in difficult times. One of the most effective ways to cultivate a positive mindset is through daily affirmations. Affirmations are powerful because they rewire your brain to focus on possibilities rather than limitations. They help you internalize the belief that success is not only possible but inevitable.

For example, every morning, I start my day with affirmations like, “I am capable of achieving my goals,” “I am resilient in the face of challenges,” and “Every step I take brings me closer to success.” These affirmations set the tone for the day, helping me approach my tasks with confidence and determination.

Hope isn’t just wishful thinking; it’s the driving force that propels you to take action. Hope gives you the energy to pursue your goals, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. By cultivating hope through setting small, achievable goals and surrounding yourself with positive influences, you build the emotional fuel needed to keep pushing forward.

Hope is what keeps you going when the results aren’t immediate. It’s what drives you to keep working on that marketing campaign, to continue reaching out to potential clients, and to invest in your personal development, even when you’re not seeing the payoff yet. Hope is built by consistently achieving small wins—each small victory reinforces your belief that the big win is possible.

One of my clients, Susan, was struggling with hope when she first started working with me. She had faced so many setbacks that she was on the verge of giving up. But we started focusing on small, achievable goals that allowed her to experience success quickly. With each small win, Susan’s hope grew, and that hope fueled her actions. Over time, these small wins built up to create significant momentum, leading to a thriving coaching business.

A well-structured daily routine is essential for creating and maintaining momentum. Your routine should be designed to help you get centered, stay focused, and enter a flow state where you’re most productive and creative.

1. Start with Mindfulness: Begin your day with a mindfulness practice, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises. This helps you center yourself, clear your mind of distractions, and set a positive tone for the day. Mindfulness allows you to approach your day with clarity and intention, rather than reacting to whatever comes your way.

For example, I start each day with a 10-minute meditation. During this time, I focus on my breath and let go of any stress or anxiety that might be lingering. This simple practice helps me approach my day with a calm, focused mind, which is essential for maintaining momentum.

2. Set Clear Intentions:** Before diving into work, take a few moments to set clear intentions for the day. What are the most important tasks you need to accomplish? What mindset do you want to carry with you? By setting intentions, you’re giving your mind a clear direction, which helps you stay focused and avoid getting sidetracked.

Setting intentions is like creating a roadmap for your day. It ensures that you’re not just busy, but productive. Each morning, I write down my top three priorities for the day. These are the tasks that will move the needle in my business. By focusing on these priorities, I ensure that my actions are aligned with my goals, which helps me build and sustain momentum.

3. Prioritize High-Impact Activities:** Momentum is built by consistently taking high-impact actions that move the needle in your business. Identify the activities that have the most significant impact on your goals—whether that’s client outreach, content creation, or personal development—and prioritize these in your daily routine. By focusing on these key activities first, you’re ensuring that you’re always moving closer to your goals.

High-impact activities are the ones that drive results. They’re the actions that directly contribute to your business’s growth. For me, high-impact activities include creating content for my programs, reaching out to potential clients, and working on my own personal development. By focusing on these activities first thing in the morning, I ensure that I’m building momentum from the start of the day.

4. Create Blocks of Focused Work Time:** To enter a flow state, it’s important to eliminate distractions and give yourself uninterrupted time to work on your most important tasks. Consider using time-blocking techniques, where you dedicate specific periods of the day to deep, focused work. During these blocks, turn off notifications, close unnecessary tabs, and fully immerse yourself in the task at hand.

Flow state is where the magic happens—it’s where you’re most productive, creative, and engaged. To enter a flow state, you need to minimize distractions and create an environment conducive to deep work. For example, I block out two hours each morning for focused work. During this time, I turn off my phone, close my email, and dive into my most important tasks. This focused work time is when I’m able to make the most progress and build the most momentum.

5. Reflect and Adjust:** At the end of each day, take a few minutes to reflect on what you accomplished. What worked well? What could be improved? Reflection allows you to learn from each day’s experiences, making adjustments that keep you moving forward with greater clarity and purpose.

Reflection is crucial for maintaining momentum because it allows you to see what’s working and what’s not. It gives you the opportunity to course-correct before small issues become big problems. Each evening, I spend a few minutes reflecting on my day. I ask myself questions like, “What did I accomplish today?” and “What can I do better tomorrow?” This reflection helps me continuously improve my routine, ensuring that I’m always building momentum.

Now, let’s bring all of these concepts to life with real-world examples from three of my clients—Randy, Chris, and Susan—who have successfully built and sustained momentum in their coaching businesses.

Randy’s Story: From Overwhelmed to Systematic Success: When Randy first came to me, he was completely overwhelmed. He was passionate about his coaching business but was stuck in a cycle of working long hours with little to show for it. Randy was running his business day by day, with no clear system in place for attracting clients consistently. His income was unpredictable, and the stress of trying to keep up was taking a toll on him.

Together, we focused on building a strong foundation. We started by identifying Randy’s ideal clients and crafting a compelling story that resonated deeply with them. Then, we worked on simplifying his processes, creating a clear, systematic approach to client acquisition. Randy implemented our Perpetual Clients System, which automated much of his marketing and follow-up, freeing him from the daily grind of hustling for clients.

The results? Within a few months, Randy’s business transformed. He went from sporadic client inquiries to a consistent flow of new clients each month. His income stabilized, allowing him to reinvest in his business and enjoy more personal freedom. Randy not only regained control of his business but also his life, as he finally had the time to focus on his passions outside of work.

Chris’s Story: From Stagnation to Rapid Growth: Chris was another coach who had the knowledge and skills but just couldn’t seem to get his business off the ground. He had invested in numerous programs and courses, but nothing seemed to work. Chris felt like he was spinning his wheels, and despite his best efforts, he wasn’t seeing the growth he desperately wanted.

When we started working together, Chris admitted that he had been trying to do everything himself—marketing, client outreach, program development—and it was wearing him down. We immediately addressed the core issue: lack of focus. Chris was spreading himself too thin, which prevented him from building any real momentum.

We streamlined his efforts by honing in on his core offer and target market. We also implemented a hybrid coaching model, which allowed Chris to scale his business without sacrificing the personal touch that was so important to him. With the right systems in place, Chris was able to focus on what he did best—coaching—while his automated processes took care of client acquisition and onboarding.

The turnaround was remarkable. Chris’s business grew rapidly, with him enrolling three to four new clients per month consistently. His monthly revenue shot up to between $10,000 and $20,000, and the best part? Chris no longer felt like he was struggling to keep up. He was back in control, enjoying the freedom that comes with a thriving business.

Susan’s Story: From Doubt to Dominance: Susan’s story is one of overcoming self-doubt and stepping into her true potential. When she first reached out to me, she was on the verge of giving up. Despite her passion for coaching, Susan was struggling with a lack of confidence. She doubted whether she could really compete in a crowded market and was hesitant to put herself out there.

Our first task was to work on Susan’s mindset. We focused on building her confidence by clarifying her unique value proposition and helping her see the immense value she brought to her clients. Once Susan believed in herself, we moved on to creating a powerful marketing strategy that positioned her as a leader in her niche.

We implemented our enrollment mastery techniques, which allowed Susan to connect deeply with her prospects and convert them into loyal clients. As Susan began to see results, her confidence grew, and so did her business. Within a few months, she went from having sporadic, low-paying clients to running a successful coaching practice with a steady stream of high-paying clients.

Today, Susan is not just surviving; she’s thriving. She’s known as an expert in her field, with a strong online presence and a business that gives her the freedom to live the life she always dreamed of. And it all started with building momentum—taking those first steps, gaining small wins, and letting that energy propel her forward.

Momentum is the secret sauce to scaling your coaching business quickly and sustainably. By cultivating a positive mindset, nurturing hope, and following a structured daily routine, you can create the momentum needed to propel your business to new heights. Remember, it’s all about starting small, staying consistent, and keeping things simple.

When you have momentum on your side, you become unstoppable. Challenges become opportunities, and success becomes inevitable.
