Welcome to the Lifestyle Business Quest Podcast! I'm Travis Greenlee, master lifestyle business growth mentor and I’m thrilled you’re here because today’s topic is foundational to your success as a lifestyle coach. We’re talking about the intersection of vision, goal setting, and the daily habits that drive success. But this isn’t just about hitting your goals—it’s about building a sustainable, thriving business that aligns with the life you want to live.
I’ll be sharing my own journey of rebuilding my business from the ground up after nearly losing everything during the 2008 recession. We’ll also explore the transformative stories of three of my clients—Jon, Jen, and Bill—each of whom faced their own unique challenges but found success by aligning their vision with their daily actions. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a clear roadmap to not only set meaningful goals but to execute on them every single day.
And stay tuned because I’ll also be sharing three actionable steps you can start implementing today to get you closer to your vision.
Let’s start with vision. Your vision is more than just a big picture goal—it’s the essence of why you do what you do. It’s the ultimate destination that guides your every action, the driving force behind your decisions, and the fuel that keeps you moving forward, even when times get tough.
For me, vision wasn’t always a priority. Early in my career, I was focused on the day-to-day grind, hustling to keep my business afloat and make as much money as possible. But without a clear vision, I was like a ship without a rudder—moving, but without direction. Then, the 2008 recession hit, and my business nearly crumbled. I lost clients, income, and my sense of purpose. It was a dark time, but it forced me to take a hard look at my life and my business. I realized I needed a clear vision, not just for my business but for my entire life.
My vision became about more than just financial success—it was about creating a business that allowed me to live the life I truly wanted. I envisioned a lifestyle where I could spend more time with my wife, enjoy my passions like skiing and mountain biking, and make a meaningful impact on my clients’ lives. This vision became my North Star. It wasn’t just a goal—it was a guiding principle that influenced every decision I made.
Your vision should be so compelling that it excites you, inspires you, and pulls you through the inevitable challenges. It should be a vivid picture of the life and business you want to create. For Jon, one of my clients, his vision was to build a coaching business that gave him financial freedom while allowing him to spend more time with his family. This vision was the foundation that every goal he set and every action he took was built upon.
With your vision in place, the next step is setting goals that align with that vision. But here’s where a lot of people get stuck—they set goals that are too vague, too broad, or not connected to their vision. Goal setting isn’t just about deciding what you want; it’s about creating a clear, actionable plan to get there.
Effective goals are SMART—specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. But beyond being SMART, your goals need to be deeply connected to your vision. They need to be the stepping stones that move you closer to the life and business you want to create.
Let’s take Jon as an example again. When he first came to me, his goals were ambitious, but they were scattered. He wanted to increase his income, build his brand, and grow his client base all at once. But without a clear strategy, he was spinning his wheels. We worked together to refine his goals, breaking them down into specific, actionable steps that aligned with his vision. Instead of trying to do everything at once, Jon focused on key areas—building his client acquisition system, refining his messaging, and creating a scalable coaching program.
These weren’t just random goals; they were carefully chosen because they were directly aligned with Jon’s vision of financial freedom and more family time. By focusing on these aligned goals, Jon was able to streamline his efforts, making steady progress that felt both achievable and meaningful. Within a year, Jon not only hit his six-figure income goal but also created a balanced lifestyle that aligned with his vision.
Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter—the daily processes. Goals are important, but they are the destination. What really matters is the journey, the daily actions that you take to get there. The truth is, it’s easy to set a goal; the hard part is the execution. And the key to execution is focusing on the process rather than just the outcome.
The problem with focusing only on the outcome is that it can feel overwhelming. Big goals can be intimidating, and when you don’t see immediate progress, it’s easy to lose motivation. This is where daily processes come in. By breaking down your goals into small, manageable actions that you can take every day, you create a sense of progress and achievement that keeps you motivated.
For me, this was a game-changer. After setting my vision and goals, I realized that the only way to achieve them was by focusing on what I could do each day. I started by creating a morning routine that centered me and set the tone for the day. This routine included meditation, goal setting, and prioritizing my tasks. I established daily habits like reaching out to potential clients, creating content, and dedicating time to personal development. These daily actions, while small, compounded over time, leading to significant results.
Jen, another one of my clients, struggled with consistency. She was great at setting goals but often lost momentum after a few weeks. We worked together to shift her focus from the goals themselves to the daily processes that would lead to those goals. We created a daily checklist of simple, repeatable actions—like spending 30 minutes each day on client outreach, 20 minutes on personal development, and 15 minutes on content creation.
At first, these actions seemed almost too simple, but that’s the beauty of it. By focusing on the process rather than the outcome, Jen found herself making consistent progress. She wasn’t overwhelmed by the big picture because she was too busy focusing on the small, daily steps. Over time, these small steps added up, and within six months, Jen had not only achieved her business goals but also developed a sense of mastery over her daily routine. This gave her the confidence to set even bigger goals and know that she could achieve them.
We’ve already discussed Jon and Jen, but I also want to share Bill’s story, which illustrates the transformative power of aligning vision, goals, and daily processes.
Bill came to me feeling stuck. He had a successful coaching business, but he felt like he was spinning his wheels, unable to break through to the next level. When we dug deeper, it became clear that Bill was so focused on his goals—like doubling his revenue—that he was neglecting the daily processes needed to get there.
We went back to basics. First, we refined Bill’s vision—what did he really want his business and life to look like? Once we had clarity, we set specific goals that aligned with that vision. But the real breakthrough came when we broke those goals down into daily actions. For Bill, this meant dedicating specific time blocks each day to revenue-generating activities, client engagement, and personal growth.
At first, Bill was skeptical. The daily actions seemed almost too simple. But as he committed to the process, he started to see results. His revenue doubled within a year, but more importantly, he felt more in control of his business and life. The daily processes became habits, and those habits led to a level of success that felt sustainable and aligned with his vision.
Bill’s story is a powerful reminder that while goals are important, it’s the daily actions you take that truly determine your success. By focusing on what you can do each day, you create momentum, build habits, and ultimately achieve the goals that bring your vision to life.
Now that we’ve explored these concepts in depth, I want to leave you with three actionable steps that you can start implementing today:
Actionable Step 1: Define Your Vision Clearly. Take some time to write down your vision. Be as specific as possible. What does your ideal life and business look like? How do you spend your time? Who are you serving? What impact are you making? This vision will serve as your guiding light. Keep it somewhere visible, where you can revisit it regularly to ensure that your daily actions are aligned with this bigger picture.
Actionable Step 2: Set SMART Goals Aligned with Your Vision. Once your vision is clear, break it down into specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. For each goal, ask yourself: How does this bring me closer to my vision? If a goal doesn’t align, reconsider its place in your strategy. This will help you stay focused and ensure that every action you take is purposeful.
Actionable Step 3: Create a Daily Routine Focused on Process. Design a daily routine that includes specific actions aligned with your goals. Start small—identify three key actions that you can take every day to move closer to your goals. This might include client outreach, content creation, or personal development. Make these actions non-negotiable parts of your day. Over time, these small daily actions will compound, creating momentum that propels you toward your vision.
Your vision is your North Star, guiding you toward the life and business you truly want. Your goals are the roadmap that breaks down your vision into actionable steps. But it’s your daily processes—the small, consistent actions you take every day—that actually get you there.
Success isn’t just about reaching the destination; it’s about the journey, the growth, and the transformation that happens along the way. By focusing on your vision, setting aligned goals, and committing to daily processes, you not only achieve your goals but also build a life and business that are fulfilling and sustainable.
Remember, it’s the small, consistent actions you take every day that create the momentum needed to turn your vision into reality.
