If you’ve been grinding it out, feeling like you have to overwork to succeed, this episode is for you. Let’s flip that mindset, unlock the freedom you deserve, and build the thriving business you’ve always wanted.

Welcome to the *Lifestyle Business Quest Podcast*, where we explore how to create a business that fuels your life, not the other way around. I’m Travis Greenlee, and for the past 25 years, I’ve helped heart-centered, passionate coaches build $250K+ lifestyle businesses. My mission is to help you make a bigger impact, enjoy personal freedom, and live the life you truly love.

Today’s episode dives deep into something that holds so many entrepreneurs back: the belief that you have to grind endlessly, work long hours, and put yourself last in order to succeed. This mindset is incredibly common, but it’s also one of the biggest reasons many talented coaches feel stuck. They think freedom is something they have to *earn*, after years of hard work, when in reality, experiencing that freedom is what will actually fuel their success.

If this sounds like you—if you feel like you need to overwork, hustle, and sacrifice your personal time just to grow your business—stay tuned. We’re going to dive deep into how to break free from that mindset, tap into the power of flow and leverage, and start living the life you want *now*, not just after you’ve “made it.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll understand why freedom is not a distant reward for all your hard work, but a vital part of your success strategy. You’ll learn why re-creation and flow are essential for unlocking your full potential, and how leveraging systems can help you grow a thriving business without sacrificing your well-being. I’ll also share actionable strategies, including three practical tips, that you can implement today to align your business with your personal values, create momentum, and start living a life of freedom while building the business you love.

Let’s start by addressing one of the biggest barriers that holds coaches back—the belief that they don’t deserve freedom *yet*. It’s that thought that creeps into your head, telling you that you haven’t earned the right to relax, take time off, or enjoy life until you’ve hit a certain level of success. And let’s be honest, in the coaching industry, there’s this deeply ingrained idea that you have to hustle endlessly to prove your worth.

Here’s the truth: Most coaches feel like they need to grind and overwork because they believe that success and freedom come *after* the struggle. They think, “Once I hit $100K, then I’ll have earned the right to take time for myself,” or, “I’ll slow down and enjoy life once I’ve built a stable client base.” But this kind of thinking is dangerous because it creates an endless cycle of pushing yourself harder and harder, without ever feeling like you’ve done enough.

That’s where the grind mindset comes in. It’s this idea that your worth is tied to how hard you work, how much you sacrifice, and how exhausted you feel at the end of the day. But here’s the thing—working harder doesn’t guarantee success. In fact, it’s often the very thing holding you back.

I’ve seen this pattern so many times in the clients I work with. They come to me feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, and stuck. They’re putting in long hours, sacrificing personal time, and pushing themselves to the limit, thinking that if they just keep grinding, they’ll eventually “make it.” But the reality is, the grind mindset only leads to burnout and frustration.

Take a moment to ask yourself: Why do I feel like I have to overwork? Is it because I believe I’m not good enough yet? That I haven’t proven myself? That I need to hustle harder to deserve the freedom I want? The truth is, you already have everything you need inside you to succeed. It’s not about proving yourself by working harder—it’s about trusting yourself to work smarter. And that starts with breaking free from the mindset that says you have to grind endlessly to earn your freedom.

The grind mindset is often rooted in something deeper: fear and insecurity. Many coaches, whether they realize it or not, use overworking as a way to avoid facing their own self-doubt. If you’re constantly busy, you don’t have time to deal with those nagging thoughts that tell you you’re not good enough or that you don’t deserve success.

It’s a form of self-sabotage, but it’s also a defense mechanism. Overworking gives you a sense of control. It makes you feel like you’re doing something, even if that “something” is running you into the ground. But here’s the thing: You can’t outrun your doubts by working harder. No amount of hustle will ever be enough if you don’t first believe that you’re worthy of success as you are right now.

One of my clients, Nina, was stuck in this very mindset. She was overworking, running herself ragged, and still feeling like it wasn’t enough. She was afraid that if she didn’t keep pushing, she’d lose momentum, or worse, fail completely. But when we dug deeper, we realized that her overworking was really about avoiding her fear of not being good enough. She didn’t believe she deserved success unless she earned it through struggle.

We worked together to shift that mindset, helping her realize that she already had everything she needed to succeed inside her. As she began to embrace her worth, she stopped overworking and started leveraging her time more effectively. The results were incredible—her business grew faster, and she felt more aligned with her work. But more importantly, she learned to trust herself and believe in her own value, which allowed her to enjoy the process of building her business, rather than feeling like she had to suffer through it.

Now that we’ve addressed the deeper mindset issues that lead to overworking, let’s talk about the alternative. The grind mindset leads to burnout, but what if I told you there’s a better way to achieve success? It’s called *flow*.

Flow is that state where you’re fully immersed in what you’re doing, where time seems to disappear, and everything feels effortless. When you’re in flow, you’re not grinding—you’re *creating*. You’re not just checking off tasks; you’re operating at your highest level of creativity and productivity.

But here’s the catch: You can’t access flow if you’re constantly stressed, overworked, and exhausted. Flow requires balance. It requires re-creation—stepping away from the grind to recharge your energy and give yourself the space to think, dream, and create.

For me, flow comes from activities like skiing, mountain biking, and spending time in nature with my family. These aren’t just hobbies—they’re essential to my ability to show up fully for my business and my clients. When I’m in flow, that’s when my best ideas come. That’s when I’m able to serve my clients at the highest level. And that’s when I feel most aligned with the freedom-based lifestyle I’ve built.

One of my clients, Margie, was in a similar situation. She was working 18-hour days, thinking that more hours would lead to more success. But she was burning out fast, and it was affecting both her personal life and her business. I challenged her to start prioritizing moments of re-creation, whether it was a short walk, a meditation session, or time to connect with her family. At first, she resisted, thinking she didn’t have time for breaks. But once she started incorporating these moments of re-creation into her day, something incredible happened—she got into flow.

Her productivity soared, her creativity came back, and her business began to thrive. Margie realized that by taking care of herself and creating space for flow, she could show up more fully for her clients, and her results improved dramatically.

Another major reason coaches feel the need to overwork is the belief that their clients expect it from them. They think that to be a great coach, they need to be constantly available, always “on,” and always giving more. But here’s what I’ve learned after decades in the business: Overworking doesn’t make you a better coach—it makes you an exhausted one.

Your clients don’t need you to be available 24/7. They need you to show up fully *present* when it matters most. They need you to be energized, focused, and in your flow state. And the only way to do that is by taking care of yourself first.

Peter, another client of mine, was struggling with this exact issue. He was doing everything manually—onboarding clients, following up, handling administrative tasks—all while trying to provide top-level coaching. But the more he tried to juggle, the less effective he became. His clients weren’t getting the best version of him because he was spread too thin.

We implemented systems to automate much of Peter’s business, freeing up his time and energy. We also worked on setting boundaries so that Peter could protect his personal time and recharge. As a result, his business started growing, his clients got better results, and Peter was able to show up with more energy and focus. It was a win-win.

So how do you start living this freedom-based lifestyle *now*, before you’ve “made it”? The answer lies in leverage. Leverage means using systems, automation, and delegation to free up your time and energy so you can focus on what matters most—serving your clients and enjoying your life.

One of the biggest mistakes coaches make is trying to do everything themselves. They think that if they’re not hands-on with every detail of their business, it won’t succeed. But this leads to burnout and limits your ability to grow. By leveraging technology and systems, you can automate the repetitive tasks that drain your energy and focus on what you love—coaching and connecting with your clients.

For example, Peter was able to automate his client onboarding process, freeing up hours of his time each week. Margie implemented group coaching programs that allowed her to serve multiple clients at once without working more hours. These systems not only helped them scale their businesses, but they also gave them the freedom to enjoy their personal lives.

But leverage isn’t just about systems—it’s also about mindset. You have to believe that you deserve freedom. You have to trust that your business will thrive, not because you’re grinding endlessly, but because you’ve set up the right systems to support it. Freedom isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you create.

Now that we’ve talked about the importance of flow, re-creation, and leveraging systems, I want to leave you with three practical tips that you can apply right now to start experiencing more freedom in your business and life:

1. Schedule Non-Negotiable Breaks: One of the most effective ways to get into flow is to schedule regular breaks throughout your day. Start by blocking out at least 30 minutes for yourself each day—whether it’s for a walk, a workout, or just some quiet time to recharge. These breaks are non-negotiable. They’re just as important as any client call or business task because they allow you to reset, refocus, and bring your best energy back to your work.

2. Automate One Repetitive Task: Look at your daily or weekly routine and identify one task that you could automate. It could be scheduling social media posts, automating client onboarding emails, or using software to handle appointment scheduling. Start with one task and build from there. By freeing up just a little bit of time and mental space, you’ll notice a big shift in your overall energy and productivity.

3. Set Clear Boundaries with Clients: Communicate clear boundaries with your clients about your availability. You don’t need to be available 24/7 to provide great service. Let them know when they can expect responses from you and stick to it. This not only helps protect your personal time, but it also sets a standard of respect for your time and energy.

Let’s recap. The grind mindset—the belief that you have to overwork to succeed—is holding you back. You already have everything you need to create the business and lifestyle you desire inside of you. By tapping into flow, leveraging your time and energy, and shifting your mindset, you can start living the freedom you want *now*, not later. And when you prioritize your own well-being, you’ll not only show up better for yourself, but you’ll also serve your clients at a much higher level. Remember to start with small changes—schedule breaks, automate tasks, and set boundaries—and you’ll see a huge difference in how you feel and perform.
