By the end of this episode, youâll have three practical steps to help you get out of your head and into consistent action so you can finally start seeing the results you deserve.
If youâve been waiting for the perfect moment to take actionâthis is it. Letâs dive in!
Letâs start by unpacking why we get stuck in our heads and procrastinate. At its core, it comes down to *fear*. We fear failure, we fear judgment, and sometimes, we even fear success. As entrepreneurs, we crave certaintyâbut the entrepreneurial path is full of unknowns.
Your brain naturally tries to protect you from risk by keeping you stuck in overthinking. You might catch yourself asking questions like, What if I launch my program and no one buys? What if I raise my prices and clients leave?* *What if I market myself and no oneâs interested? These fears keep you trapped in a cycle of inaction.
In the coaching world, this often shows up as delaying program launches, avoiding outreach to potential clients, or spending way too much time refining your messaging without putting it out into the world. This is exactly what happened to Jim, one of my clients who was stuck in analysis paralysis.
Jim was a perfect example of someone stuck in his head. He had everything lined upâhe knew his market, had a great offer, and even had a few clients. But every time he thought about scaling his business, he froze. Jim kept overthinking every step, worried about making mistakes, and as a result, he didnât take any action to grow.
When Jim and I started working together, I told him to forget about the big picture for a moment. Instead of worrying about scaling his business to $250,000, we simplified his focus to just one goal: *get one new client*. By focusing on a small, manageable action, Jim was able to stop overthinking and start doing.
Within a few weeks, Jim signed two new clients, and that initial success gave him the momentum to keep moving forward. His business grew by 200% over the next few months, and it all started with one small action.
Letâs talk about Steve, another client who struggled with perfectionism. Steve spent months working on his coaching program, tweaking his website, and refining his messagingâyet, he never actually launched. He was waiting for everything to be *perfect* before he put it out into the world.
Perfectionism is really just another form of procrastination. Itâs a way of avoiding the fear of judgment or failure by convincing yourself that things need to be flawless before you act. The truth? *Perfection doesnât exist*. Waiting for it is just a way to delay action.
When Steve and I worked together, we set a hard deadline for launching his program. It wasnât perfect, but he launched it anyway. Within a month, Steve signed five new clients, and none of them cared that his program wasnât flawlessâthey cared about the transformation he offered.
Perfectionism is procrastination in disguise. Take imperfect action, and refine as you go.
Ron was a coach who had been in the game for years, but self-doubt kept him stuck. He constantly second-guessed himself, especially when it came to raising his prices and marketing his services. Every time he thought about positioning himself as a high-ticket coach, that voice in his head would say, *Who do you think you are to charge those prices?*
Self-doubt is one of the biggest reasons we procrastinate. Weâre so afraid of rejection or failure that we avoid taking action altogether. The thing is, confidence doesnât come before actionâit comes *from* action.
With Ron, we focused on taking small, manageable steps despite his self-doubt. He slightly raised his prices and reached out to a few potential clients. Within a few weeks, he signed his first high-ticket client. That win gave him the confidence to keep going, and soon, he was enrolling clients at premium rates consistently.
Confidence comes from doing, not thinking. Take action, even if youâre unsure, and your confidence will grow with every step.
Now, letâs talk about the cost of staying stuck in procrastination mode. When you procrastinate, youâre not just delaying tasksâyouâre delaying your business growth, your income, and your success. The cost of procrastination shows up in three main ways:
Momentum is one of the most powerful forces in business. When you take consistent action, even small steps, you build momentum that propels you forward. But when you procrastinate, you lose that momentum, and it becomes harder and harder to get started again.
Every time you delay action, youâre missing out on potential clients, partnerships, and opportunities. Whether itâs a client who could have signed up, a speaking engagement you didnât pursue, or a collaboration that passed you byâprocrastination costs you *real opportunities*.
Staying stuck in your head is exhausting. The mental energy it takes to constantly think about what you *should* be doing without actually doing it drains you. This emotional toll can lead to frustration, burnout, and even shame. The longer you stay stuck, the harder it feels to get out of that place.
The cost of procrastination is simply too high. Your business and your dreams canât grow if youâre not in action.
I know this struggle personally. In 2008, during the recession, I nearly lost everything. My once-thriving coaching business was on the verge of collapse because I hadnât built the systems to sustain it through hard times. For months, I stayed stuck in my head, overthinking every move, afraid of making the wrong decision.
Eventually, I realized that staying stuck wasnât an option. I started learning from top industry leaders, and I began taking imperfect, messy action. Slowly but surely, things started to turn around. Today, my business is thriving, and I have the freedom to live the life Iâve always wanted, while serving my clients at the highest level.
The path to success isnât found in overthinkingâitâs found in taking action. You donât need to have all the answers before you start. Just start.
Now that weâve explored why we procrastinate, letâs dive into the three practical steps you can take today to get out of your head and into action.
1. Start Small, But Start Now
One of the biggest reasons we procrastinate is because the task feels overwhelming. When you think about growing a six-figure or multi-six-figure coaching business, it can feel like a mountain to climb. The solution? Break it down into smaller, manageable steps.
Instead of worrying about how youâll scale your entire business, focus on the *next smallest action* you can take today. Maybe itâs sending an email to a potential client, posting a piece of content, or scheduling a discovery call. The key is to create momentum, and momentum starts with small steps.
Jimâs story is a perfect example. He was paralyzed by overthinking, but once he shifted his focus to just getting one new client, he gained momentum. That first small action led to more clients, more confidence, and more results.
Actionable Tip: Right now, think about the smallest action you can take today to move your business forward. Write it down, and commit to doing it before the day ends.
Perfectionism is one of the biggest roadblocks to progress. We wait for everything to be âperfectâ before we act, but in reality, perfection doesnât exist. The best way to overcome perfectionism is to set a hard deadline for yourself. When you have a deadline, youâre forced to take action, even if things arenât flawless.
Steve was stuck in this perfectionism loop. He kept tweaking his program and refining his website, but never launched. Once he committed to a launch date, everything shifted. He launched his program, signed clients, and refined it as he went. His clients didnât care about the small imperfectionsâthey cared about the transformation he offered.
Actionable Tip: Set a firm deadline for launching your next project, whether itâs a program, marketing campaign, or outreach initiative. Write the deadline down, and make it non-negotiable. Then, commit to taking action by that date, no matter what.
Success isnât built on one big actionâitâs built on small, consistent steps taken every day. Instead of trying to overhaul your business overnight, focus on showing up every day for at least 30 minutes. Those small daily actions will add up over time and create massive momentum.
For Ron, consistent action was the game-changer. He made a habit of doing daily outreach, even when he didnât feel confident. That consistency led to his first high-ticket clients, and it all started with showing up every day.
Actionable Tip: Dedicate 30 minutes each day to focused, high-impact tasks in your businessâwhether thatâs client outreach, content creation, or marketing. Track your progress to see how these small steps add up over time.
Weâve covered a lot in this episode, from understanding why we get stuck in our heads to exploring the real cost of procrastination. We heard stories from Jim, Steve, and Ronâthree coaches who broke free from procrastination and built thriving businesses through consistent action.
We also dug into three practical steps to help you get out of your head and into action today:
1. Start Small, But Start Now** â Focus on the next smallest action you can take today to create momentum.
2. Set a Deadline for Imperfect Action** â Stop waiting for perfection. Set a hard deadline, and commit to launching or acting by that date.
3. Take Consistent Daily Action** â Success is built through small, consistent steps. Dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to moving your business forward.
Remember, the only thing that guarantees failure is *not taking action*. Every small step you take moves you closer to your goals. So, whatâs the one action youâre going to take today?
