Welcome to the Lifestyle Business Quest Podcast! I’m thrilled to have you here. I’m Travis Greenlee, and I help heart-centered coaches grow thriving $250k+ businesses so they can create the impact, freedom, and lifestyle they desire. Today, we’re talking about what it means to align your coaching business with your true purpose—your Dharma. This isn’t just about financial success; it’s about waking up every day excited because your business is an expression of who you are. I’ll be sharing my own story of building a 25-year career around my passion for serving others, along with inspiring stories from my clients who are living their Dharma every day.

From a young age, I knew my passion was to help people. I’ve always been drawn to personal growth, motivation, and the desire to make a positive impact on the world. I started coaching over 25 years ago, fueled by a deep passion to serve others and guide them towards their highest potential. For me, coaching was never just a job—it was a calling. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of clients, helping them build successful businesses, achieve personal freedom, and design lives they truly love.

Living my Dharma has been about more than just coaching; it’s been about creating a lifestyle that reflects my core values—freedom, adventure, and connection. I’ve built my business to allow me to spend my days doing what I love most, whether it’s skiing the slopes of Steamboat Springs, biking up Emerald Mountain, or spending quality time with my wife. This journey has taught me that when your business aligns with your passion, it fuels every part of your life. And that’s exactly what I want for you—to create a business that doesn’t just pay the bills but lights you up every single day.

Living into your Dharma isn’t just something coaches talk about; it’s a concept embraced by many thought leaders. Simon Sinek, in his book Start with Why, teaches us that people are drawn to purpose. When your business starts with your why, it creates a deeper connection with your clients and leads to greater success. Brené Brown’s work on authenticity shows us that being true to yourself and your story is what creates powerful connections. Elizabeth Gilbert, in Big Magic, talks about embracing curiosity and passion as the driving forces behind a fulfilling life.

These leaders remind us that our work should be more than just a series of tasks—it should be a reflection of who we are. Take Rick, one of my clients, for example. He was stuck in the routine of coaching without feeling connected to his deeper purpose. Once he discovered that his real passion was helping people find their voice, everything changed. He revamped his coaching business to focus on his unique gifts, and not only did his business grow, but his joy and fulfillment skyrocketed.

Rick’s journey is one of rediscovery, resilience, and reigniting a long-lost passion. When Rick first came to me, he was caught in a cycle that so many coaches find themselves in—doing the work, checking the boxes, and bringing in clients, but feeling completely disconnected from his own purpose. He was successful by all outward appearances, making a decent living from his one-on-one coaching, but inside, he was burnt out and exhausted. He told me, “Travis, I feel like I’m just going through the motions. I’m coaching, but I’m not inspired anymore. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.”

The first thing we did was slow down and reconnect Rick with his original passion—helping others find their authentic voice. I asked him, “Rick, when did you feel most alive in your business?” His eyes lit up as he recalled a time early in his career when he was running workshops, guiding people through storytelling exercises, and seeing the light bulbs go off when his clients discovered something profound about themselves. That was his Dharma—helping people find their voices and use them powerfully.

Rick’s transformation began when he decided to shift away from traditional one-on-one coaching and create a group program that centered around this passion. We worked together to design a signature group coaching experience where Rick could bring people together to share, grow, and find their voices in a supportive community. The impact was immediate. Not only did Rick’s income double, but his sense of fulfillment returned tenfold. He started seeing his clients thrive, finding their confidence, and using their voices in ways that inspired others. Rick wasn’t just a coach anymore—he was a leader, living his purpose and making a difference in a way that reignited his own passion every single day.

Kara’s story is a powerful example of how aligning your business with your Dharma can turn overwhelm into empowerment. Kara had been running her coaching business for a few years, but she felt trapped in a cycle of burnout. She was constantly juggling client work, marketing, and trying to keep up with all the shoulds of running a business. Despite her outward success, Kara felt overwhelmed, stuck in the minutiae of day-to-day tasks that drained her energy. Her passion—helping women reclaim their power and confidence—was buried under a mountain of responsibilities that didn’t light her up.

In our first call, Kara broke down, admitting, “I just feel like I’m losing myself in this. I love my clients, but I’m drowning in the work.” We dove deep into why she started coaching in the first place, peeling back the layers to uncover her true purpose. For Kara, coaching was never just about delivering content; it was about creating transformational experiences that empowered women to step into their power. We completely restructured her business, shifting from low-ticket, high-effort one-on-one sessions to a high-ticket group coaching model that leveraged her passion and expertise.

But the real magic happened when Kara embraced her role as a leader and facilitator. She created a space where women could share their stories, challenge their limiting beliefs, and support each other’s growth. Kara’s group coaching program became a movement—a safe haven for women to rediscover their confidence and reclaim their lives. Within months, Kara went from feeling overwhelmed and exhausted to feeling energized and on fire for her work. Her income doubled, but more importantly, Kara was finally living her purpose. She was no longer just a coach; she was a beacon of empowerment for every woman who walked through her doors.

Another one of my clients, Alicia’s transformation is all about stepping into her highest potential by embracing the mindset of a high-vibe coach. When Alicia first came to me, she was incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, but she was also her own biggest obstacle. Alicia struggled with self-doubt, constantly questioning whether she was good enough, smart enough, or capable enough to lead her clients. She knew she had a gift for helping entrepreneurs break free from their fears and step boldly into their businesses, but she wasn’t fully living into that gift herself.

During our coaching sessions, Alicia opened up about her fears—fear of failure, fear of being judged, fear of not being enough. I challenged her to let go of these limiting beliefs and step fully into her purpose. Alicia began to see that her vulnerability wasn’t a weakness; it was her superpower. She started showing up in her business as her most authentic self, sharing her own journey of overcoming self-doubt, and inviting her clients to do the same.

Alicia transitioned her coaching model to a hybrid approach, combining group coaching with personalized one-on-one sessions, allowing her to scale her impact without losing the deep, personal connections that made her unique. She started leading with her heart, embracing her role as a high-vibe coach who brought energy, passion, and authenticity to every interaction. Alicia’s business took off. She was no longer hiding behind perfectionism or doubt; she was leading with purpose, inspiring her clients to do the same. Alicia’s income grew to consistent $20,000 months, but beyond the numbers, she found a level of joy and fulfillment that she’d never experienced before. She was living her Dharma, not just as a coach, but as a role model for every entrepreneur she served.

Let’s dig deep into how you can start aligning your coaching business with your true purpose. These steps are not just surface-level tasks; they’re transformative actions that will help you connect with your core and build a business that feels like an extension of your soul.

1. Clarify Your Core Values and Passions with a Deep Reflective Practice. Finding your Dharma starts with getting crystal clear on what truly matters to you. This isn’t a quick hecklist exercise—it’s about deep self-reflection. Set aside dedicated time in a quiet space, free from distractions, and journal on the following prompts:

- What activities make me lose track of time? This question reveals what you are naturally drawn to and where your passion lies. Reflect on moments when you were fully immersed and joyful. What were you doing? Who were you helping? Don’t just write down the activity; describe the feeling, the environment, and the impact you were making.

- What do I stand for? List your top five values, but don’t stop there. For each value, write down why it’s important to you, how it shows up in your life, and how it impacts your decisions. These values are not just words—they are the driving forces that shape your purpose and how you show up in your business.

- What is my biggest joy when serving others? Dive into moments when you felt your work truly mattered. What kind of impact were you making? Was it the light in a client’s eyes, the breakthrough moment in a session, or the gratitude expressed by someone you helped? This exercise helps you connect with the emotional aspect of your Dharma, anchoring your purpose in the joy of service.

By engaging deeply with these questions, you’ll start to see patterns emerge, pointing you towards your true passion. For example, Kara used this reflective practice to identify her deepest value—empowerment. She realized that every time she helped a woman find her confidence, she felt an unmatched sense of fulfillment. This clarity became the cornerstone of her business transformation, allowing her to build a coaching model that felt truly aligned with her purpose.

2. Craft Your Signature Story with Vulnerability and Authenticity. Your story is not just a marketing tool; it’s your superpower. Your journey, struggles, and triumphs are what make you relatable and magnetic to your ideal clients. To craft your signature story, you need to go beyond the surface. Spend time reflecting on your own path—what pivotal moments led you to become a coach? What challenges have you overcome that your clients might be facing right now?

- Identify Your Defining Moments: Write down the top three defining moments in your life that have shaped who you are today. These could be successes, failures, or life-changing events that pushed you to grow. For each moment, write a detailed narrative—what happened, how it felt, what you learned, and how it changed you. Rick, for example, realized that his love for helping others find their voices stemmed from his own journey of overcoming shyness and self-doubt. Sharing this vulnerability connected him deeply with his clients because they could see that he wasn’t just a coach; he was someone who had walked their path.

- Highlight the Transformation: Every great story has a before and after. Outline what life was like before you embraced your Dharma, what changed, and how you now help others on their journey. Go deep—describe the internal shifts, the fears you had to confront, and the actions you took to move forward. Alicia used her story of battling self-doubt to inspire her clients, showing them that transformation is possible even when you’re terrified of taking the next step.

- Connect Your Story to Your Clients’ Journey: Your story should resonate with your audience. Ask yourself, how does my experience relate to what my clients are going through? What lessons can they learn from my journey? By sharing these insights, you build trust and position yourself as someone who truly understands and can guide them. Kara’s ability to openly share her own struggles with overwhelm made her relatable, allowing her clients to feel seen and understood in their own journeys.

Embrace your story fully, flaws and all. It’s not about perfection; it’s about connection. Your story will become the bridge that brings your clients into your world, making them feel seen, heard, and inspired. When you own your story, it becomes a powerful tool for transformation—not just for you, but for every client you touch.

3. Design Offers That Reflect Your Purpose and Create Transformation. Your coaching offers should be a direct reflection of your Dharma—aligned with your passion, values, and the transformation you wish to provide. This means moving beyond cookie-cutter services and creating offers that feel deeply connected to who you are.

- Create an Offer that Feels Like an Extension of You: Think about what excites you most in your coaching. Is it group dynamics, one-on-one deep dives, or creating a community? Go beyond what’s popular or expected—focus on what lights you up. Rick moved from one-on-one coaching to group programs because he loved the energy of people sharing their stories together. His offer wasn’t just a product; it was an experience that felt true to his purpose and brought him immense joy every day.

- Focus on Transformation, Not Just Information: Your clients don’t just want knowledge; they want results. Design your offers around the specific transformations your clients will experience. Outline the journey your clients will go through, the shifts they’ll make, and the outcomes they’ll achieve. Alicia’s hybrid coaching model combined the structure of a course with personalized touchpoints, ensuring her clients didn’t just learn—they evolved. She infused her offers with emotional touchpoints, personal support, and accountability measures that ensured clients stayed on track and saw real change.

- Infuse Your Offers with Your Unique Approach: Your way of coaching is uniquely yours. Don’t be afraid to bring your personality, style, and philosophy into your offers. Highlight what makes you different and why clients should choose you. Kara’s empowerment-focused group coaching program was a direct expression of her passion for helping women stand tall. She designed exercises, group dynamics, and celebrations that honored each client’s journey, making her programs feel like a personal mission rather than just a business offer.

Designing offers that reflect your purpose is about more than business strategy—it’s about creating a coaching experience that is as fulfilling for you as it is transformative for your clients. When your offers align with your Dharma, selling them feels natural, and delivering them feels like an extension of your highest self. Clients sense the authenticity, and that’s what sets your coaching apart in a crowded market.
